Sungsoo Kim, renowned for his delicate interpretation and rich expressiveness, delivers profound musical resonance. After graduating from the Korea National University of Arts, he pursued further studies in Germany, earning a Master’s degree from the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and completing the Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, solidifying his foundation as a professional performer.

Distinguished by his first-place wins at the 54th Dong-A Music Competition and the 30th Busan Music Competition, Sungsoo Kim also gained international recognition by advancing to the finals and winning a special prize at the Budapest Trombone Competition in Hungary. Additionally, he reached the finals of the Internationale Posaunenvereinigung Solo Wettbewerb (Germany Trombone Association Competition) and secured first place in the scholarship competition at Italian Brass Week, showcasing his exceptional musicality both domestically and abroad.

During his studies at the Korea National University of Arts, he debuted as a soloist performing Henri Tomasi’s Concerto for Trombone with the KNUA Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Chi-Yong Chung at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall. He later collaborated as a soloist with the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Chamber Orchestra, and Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, demonstrating his remarkable capabilities as a soloist. His musical journey includes recitals such as the Kumho Young Artist Solo Recital and a special solo recital for young Korean musicians hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Germany, where he engaged audiences with diverse repertoires.

Dedicated to both orchestral and ensemble performances, Sungsoo Kim has served as principal trombonist with the Seoul Youth Orchestra and the Seoul Arts Center Festival Orchestra. He also completed a Praktikum with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt and was a member of the prestigious Berlin Brass Quintet (BBQ). Furthermore, he has performed as a guest trombone with renowned orchestras such as the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, Theater für Niedersachsen Hildesheim, Thüringer Philharmonie, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, and Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, gaining diverse stage experiences.

Having studied under Kim Kijoon, Lee Chulwoong, Bae Seokwon, Olaf Ott, Jamie Williams, and Tomer Maschkowski, Sungsoo Kim is currently an active member of various ensembles such as Foursaune and Krass Ensemble. He is also a dedicated educator, teaching at Korea National University of Arts, Kyung Hee University, University of Seoul, Jeju National University, Yewon School, and Seoul Arts High School, nurturing the next generation of musicians. Starting in 2025, he will also join the TIMF Ensemble as a member.
