Dr. Austin Seybert is a trombonist, educator, and composer born and raised in Bridgeport, West Virginia. After completing his Bachelors degree in Music Education and Jazz Studies at Marshall University, Austin moved to Champaign, Illinois where he completed his Masters degree in Jazz Performance with Jim Pugh while serving as his Jazz Teaching Assistant, as well as being a member of the award winning UIUC Jazz Trombone Ensemble. Austin was named a National Finalist for the American Trombone Workshop Solo Jazz Trombone Competition and won a DownBeat Student Award for his arrangement of John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps.” Formerly a faculty member at Bradley University and the University of Dubuque, in 2019 Austin joined the faculty at Northern Kentucky University with the official title of Lecturer of Low Brass and Music Theory.
